ABOUT ANNE WARSHAW

SOLUTION ORIENTED. EXPERIENCED. COMMUNITY DRIVEN.

My life’s work --- expanding equity for marginalized populations of all ages --- has thoroughly prepared me to serve as a School Board member in District 68. As an elementary classroom teacher in under resourced schools, I witnessed first-hand how inequitable funding, resources, and poor leadership can shape the larger community. In 2013, I founded Mission Propelle, one of the state’s largest after-school enrichment providers. Mission Propelle has empowered over 10,000  students to become leaders and fight for gender equity.  I bring the principles that power Mission Propelle to my role as a Gender Justice professor at Roosevelt University. I have served on boards and community organizations with the goal of eliminating the disparities that burden our society, forging new pathways towards equity and justice for women and girls. Every decision I make reflects my core values: equity, inclusivity, and compassion.

My family means everything in the world to me. I will fight to ensure my kids and their peers get an exceptional education. We have a 4 year old son, Grant, and 23 month old daughter, Adira. We are excited to announce our newest addition to the crew, coming in late March 2021, just in time for the election. We live in the Devonshire neighborhood, all of our children will attend Devonshire Elementary starting with Grant in 2022.

SOLUTION ORIENTED

When I encounter a problem, I assess, do my research, and take action. As a business owner and educator, I create long term strategic plans that allow flexibility. I aim to  serve our community by fostering broad inclusion when implementing policy changes.

EXPERIENCED

I can do a lot with very little. As a classroom teacher in an under resourced school, I quickly learned how to utilize every tool in my belt, including my vast personal and professional network,  to  provide my students comparable resources to students in wealthier areas. This early experience informed my work ethic and approach to business and education.

I always work with a sense of urgency. As a small business owner with a staff of 45, I adapt to situations quickly to meet the needs of my employees and our clients, keeping in mind a forward looking strategy. I am a mom who works and parents full time. Further, as the co-leader of my company, I prioritize creating strong relationships amongst staff, foster growth opportunities for our employees, and honestly reflect on my leadership capabilities.

Lastly, as a small business, I have my hands in every aspect of  our company, including our finances. I am well-versed in managing a large budget, thinking strategically about growth, and working with very little resources.

I promise to bring this same expertise to the board, bridging conversations and working with the board to achieve larger outcomes that affect our students.

COMMUNITY DRIVEN

Our children and our school system are facing unprecedented challenges. Our state will run one of our largest budget deficits in recent memory and our students will return to a system that has been transformed by e-learning and the pandemic. My career and personal life have equipped me with the tools to tackle these issues head on. I recognize my own privilege and have dedicated my resources and energy to using that privilege to address the disparities in our community.  I have dedicated my career and personal life to the community, specifically children, because I do not want any child to ever feel like their voice does not matter.
